THE trainer
JULIA VANHOORNE
Hi! I'm a vegan strength athlete, personal trainer, and registered physiotherapist. I specialise in powerlifting, hand balancing, and Animal Flow. After eight years in the fitness industry, I went back to university to undertake a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy), finishing in 2022.
My clients are women and men of all ages who want to get stronger, move better, and eat better. Some people who work with me are vegan or vegetarian, but some are non-vegan too!
Some of my clients compete in powerlifting, some simply enjoy building sufficient strength to lift and carry their children or grandchildren - or lots of shopping bags!
Some of my clients want to nail their first handstand; others just like to feel amazing by moving better with Animal Flow.
My clients enjoy feeling healthier, stronger, and more mobile. They like that sessions are fun, even though we're working hard. They like that their goals are achievable, even though they're challenging. They like that sessions have a clear focus, even though they're flexible depending on how you feel that day.
So why would you train with me and not someone else?
I've been involved in the fitness industry since 2011, and have earned a number of certifications and qualifications:

While I now specialise in powerlifting, Animal Flow, and handbalancing, my adventures have included cycling, running, triathlon, open-water swimming, and powerlifting. I've competed or participated in events including but not limited to:

In 2017, I competed at both the IPL World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada and the 2017 IPL Drug-Tested World Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, I took home the gold medal in the female raw open 52kg category.
Apart from my fitness pursuits, I also hold a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the University of Western Australia, and have been tutoring music since 2006. I have enjoyed playing with numerous orchestras, symphonic wind ensembles, jazz bands, brass bands, and various small ensembles in Australia and New Zealand.
Fifteen years of continuous teaching has brought a wealth of experience to my fitness coaching, and I enjoy working with a range of people of all ages, background, abilities, and levels of experience.
Most recently, I have completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy) with a goal to get you moving better and stronger no matter what you current condition is. Whether it's competition, surgery, childbirth, or retirement that you're preparing for, my goal is to get you there in the best shape possible.
